26th May. Window side of kitchen before and after

Window side. Before photo 31st March after photo 25th April.

26th May. Comparing works ... ceiling before and after

26th May. Today I thought I would look back and see how far the kitchen has actually progressed.
So here goes for before and after shots...

Ceiling before and after. Top photo taken 31st March.
Bottom photo taken 25th April.

25th May. Flooring day ten...sealer applied

25th May. Today the floors had two coats of sealer (or whatever it is called) Makes a big difference. Of course the smell is really bad even though the room has been completely sealed. Floorer tells me that I can't have the gas on for at least 48 hours so no hot water. Have to go to a friends for a shower. Washing dishes using water from the electric kettle. This morning had to wash and wipe down every surface and everything on the kitchen dresser had to be washed or wiped over.

24th May. Flooring day nine ... floors sanded

24th May. Today the floors were sanded!!!

22nd May. Flooring day eight... puttied the nail holes

23rd May. Three months since the renovation began...

Lost count of how many days the flooring guy has come. Today he did filled the nail holes with putty. Works only half a day filling in this job with others I suppose. But I have no problems with his work he knows what he is doing and I haven't had to ask him to redo anything... the gyprocker and the electrician both had to come back and fix up problems.

18th May. Flooring day seven ... floorboards clean

18th May. Floorer had to clean in between the floor boards. Had to use a special tool to remove gyprocker's fine powder. I made it worse because each time after the gyprocker had been I washed the floors to keep down the dust. Another costly exercise...

17th May. Flooring day six... fireplace now has a floor

17th May. Floor boards which where taken up now reside where the fireplace was. Looking better but of course this cost me a lot!

15th May. Flooring day five ... boards replaced and new joists

15th May. Where the kitchen cupboards will go the new flooring was replaced (to the left) with chipboard? (looks like it) New joists layed down in the fireplace area

Where the kitchen cupboards are going so don't need good floor boards.
Going to where the fireplace was.

Joists put in where the fireplace was. I am patiently waiting for this hole to go and see some flooring which will make a big difference.

11th May. Flooring day three and four ... floor boards removed.

11th May. Floorer has pulled up the three floor boards which will be used where the fireplace was. Floor boards will be staggered up to where the kitchen island will be.

Floor boards removed

Cleaned up debris. About ten sackfuls of cement, bricks and 100 years of dirt

10th May. Flooring day two ... sanding has begun ...

10th May. Sanding has began - it looks so much better but when the hole is filled in it will look great.

9th May. Flooring Day one ... cement base removed ...

9th May. The cement base of the fireplace was removed. Of course there were problems! The floorer thought the base would only be 2-3inch but it was about 6inch. He used a hammer drill to remove it but it took all day. Now more cost over run but I must say it looks better. He is going to remove some floorboards that the kitchen cupboards will be on and replace them with other boards then he can reuse the old one to cover the hole and stagger the floorboards that are nearby.

Above shows the concrete slab before being removed.

Below the slab removed after four hours of hammer drilling!
