28th April. More probems ...

28th April.Today I was told the gyprocker needed to come back and do some more sanding as not smooth enough to paint. The painter is a perfectionist thank God!

Thinking that maybe the old slate needs to be taken up and replace with old floor boards. If I was having cupboards over this area it would be alright but seeing that the fridge is going there I need the space to be perfectly even.

25th May. At last I have decided what I want ...

I like the 'Silver Moon' (by Amerind, like laminex) for the cabinetry. I think it goes well with the stone I have chosen. See below. Using Essastone 'Porcini' for the bench tops which should go well.

Using 'Brushed Aluminium' for the kickbacks.

For the splachblacks using black glass.
I was going to have red but seeing that the area is bigger than anticipated going for black as it will look good with chrome and aluminium.

25th April. Electricals finished at last ...

Finally all the lights are up and working. Now another big mess too clean up. Because of the plaster the lights had to be sanded back. The electrician even put 'skirts' on all the lights so the painter wouldn't get paint on the lights. Good thinking I must say!

18th April. Electricals in place but the holes drilled into ceiling are too big so they have to be filled up with plaster ... so they are just hanging there. Photos top and below.

20th April. Electricals getting there ...

The electrician has started ... organization of the electricals now all neat and tidy!
Moved the air conditioner vent over so not under kitchen island.

10th April. Samples ...

Today I went to Laminex to see if I could get a larger sample of the EssaStone 'Porcini'. Sales assistant said they usually didn't give out larger samples. I said I was spending about $5,000 on the benchtops so if possible I would like one. She rang some one and they said either go to the stone place that will be cutting it or they would give me a piece which would cost me $20.00 but they usually don't take money so she didn't know how she would do it!!! I left without it. Also I wanted other samples in there 'Mettaline' range but the one I wanted they didn't have, would have to call the 'sample place'. Rang them and they didn't have it either...

Then I rang Amerind for a sample of there 'Silver Moon'. I had emailed them weeks ago for a sample but nothing has arrived. Hopefully I will get a sample this time...

9th June. My temporary kitchen

The old kitchen dresser has come in very handy

This is where all the preparation takes place. Today I used the kettle and sandwich maker at the same time and it was a bit too much. Lucky I had a surge protection on the power board.

The laundry now houses my kitchen sink area. I bought this extender from Howard's Storage and it is working out well. Have to do the dishes everyday though otherwise too much to cope with.

This bowl I bought from Ikea so I can wash up without using the big laundry sink.

19th March. New kitchen window

19th March 2012. After a six week wait the kitchen window is now in (was told three weeks)
As usual problems occurred as the bricks around the old window collapsed when the window was taken out. The window person had to re-do the brick work... of course more expense.

31st March. Fireplace gone...

31st March. Fireplace has gone this should now open up the area...

Before and after photos

Below photo taken two weeks later

31st March. Ceiling gone ...

31st March. Ceiling has gone now something has to be done about the electricals.
It is such a mess up there I will have to get all new wiring. Did not anticipate this!

23rd March. Old kitchen gone!

Old floor boards are in very good condition so I have decided to keep them and get them sanded and polished. I think this will give the kitchen the 'organic' look I would like.

 The old sink area

The old servery and fireplace. The servery will be closed up and the fireplace demolished to allow better use of space.

Ah, the old pine ceiling soon to be gone. Soon this will be just a memory...

Old kitchen photos

My daughter cooking up a storm with zucchini and pasta.

In this photo the dados have been painted over there was just too much pine...

In late 2011 I decided I urgently needed to update my kitchen. It was about thirty years old and at the time we didn't have much money so a friend did the cabinetry. At the time pine was really in but my ex-husband really went overboard with it. We had a pine ceiling, pine dados, pine cupboards and pine shelves. But it was a workable kitchen.
